Senator Tom Wiens, a rancher and businessman, has emerged as a recognized leader and focused legislator dedicated to Colorado common sense values.

Senator Tom Wiens represents Senate District 4 which includes southern Douglas County, northern El Paso and all of Teller, Park, and Lake Counties. He is a rancher and businessman, and is recognized as an optimistic, focused leader dedicated to Colorado common sense values. He is known as a “Get-it-Done” legislator who focuses on results for his constituents and the people of Colorado. 

Tom serves on the Senate Business Affairs, Labor and Technology Committee and the Senate Local Government Committee and has served on the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. He also served on the House Agricultural and Natural Resources Committee. Tom has been involved directly and indirectly in Colorado Politics for over 30 years. There are very few people who have a deeper understanding of Colorado and the challenges and opportunities of Colorado’s future.

Because of Tom's expertise concerning wild fires and emergency preparedness, he is an honorary member of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association. He was named Legislator of the Year in 2003 and a Guardian of Small Business by the NFIB. He has received the Common Sense Award from the Civil Justice League and is the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Wiens is the CEO of New West Capital, a commercial and residential finance company and real estate firm. He is a Director of FirstTier Capital, a family investment company, and Chairman of Wiens Ranch Company. Tom is a compassionate legislator with real world experience. When he votes on legislation, he knows from experience how Colorado businesses and families will be affected. He knows how fragile the American dream can be and no one is more dedicated to protecting it. 

Tom serves on the Board of Directors of the Children's Hospital Research Institute Foundation. He is a former director of the National Cutting Horse Association and is a member of the National Western Stock Show Association.

Tom earned his Bachelors degree from The American University and his Masters of Divinity from Yale University. He has even served as a volunteer police Chaplain, works with several faith-based community programs and is active in parent organizations in Douglas County Schools.

Wiens lives with his wife of 28 years, Diana, on the Wiens Ranch in southwest Douglas County where they raise hay, cattle, and champion Cutting Horses. The Wiens are stalwarts of the community and many charitable organizations and are long time members of Cherry Hills Community Church. They have four children, and one grandchild.
